Stan and Jan Berenstain

Here are Stan and Jan working together
in the early 60's. They met at art college and married
four years later in 1946. During the war he worked as
a medical illustrator and she worked for the army corps
of engineers as a draftsman, as well as riveting together aircraft.

We've probably only read about 20 of the 300 or so Berenstain Bears books
with our kids, but to say they're classics would be an understatement.
I can still remember copying out the words
from 'Inside, outside, upside down' just to practice printing.

We lost Stan in 2005 when he was 82.
Jan died last week at 88 but was working on two books and
had been doing illustrations up until the day she passed.

"It's wonderful to do something you love for
so many years. Not everyone has that."
Jan Berenstain
