Roméo Dallaire

Senator, Retired General and Canadian hero.

With only a few hundred soldiers and surrounded by impossible choices, he saved 32 000 people while standing his ground during the Rwandan genocide, 20 years ago. Since then he has founded The Roméo Dalaire Child Soldiers Initiative, co-directs the Will to Intervene Project and authored Shake Hands with the Devil. Awarded the Order of Canada and the U.S. Legion of Merit among many others.

"One of the benefits of optimism and idealism is that they lead you into things
you would never have tried if you'd let yourself imagine how hard it was going
to turn out to be."
