She was an average student who became the first woman
in Italy to graduate from medical school.
She went on to prove that, with sensory training and
stimulation, disabled and mentally retarded children
could pass the same tests as normal children. She
expanded her technique, the Montessori technique,
to work for all children.
She promoted that children don't learn like adults do.
Children have absorbent minds, infinitely capable
of self directed learning.
"The greatest sign of success for a teacher...
is to be able to say,

'The children are now working as if I did not exist.'"
